Review:

With his brand-new cover-album "Big Shoes" David Munyon seems to repeat what Manfred Mann and his Earthband have done with great success and perfection in the 70ies with famous hits such like "Migthy Quinn" from Bob Dylan and "Blinded by the light" from Bruce Springsteen. The title of the album is the platform: David Munyon wears his black and white Chucks not only in a noticeable size, but with the exquisite assortment of Songs on this album he also puts on big shoes in another meaning. Shoes that seem to be made especially for him, fitting him for 100% and made him feel so comfortable with. Exactly that way a favourite shoe must be! With "A hard rain’s a-going to fall" and "Atlantic City", Dylan and Springsteen can also be found here with great works. Munyon’s unique interpretations make it all sounding in a very new brilliance and his playing and singing gives you the impression that all these classical tunes of Rock and Roll history was composed and written by him. "Purple Rain" is far away from the original one and that’s cool and well done. I never have heard "Yesterday" sounding more beautiful and melancholic than here. This outstanding Singer/Songwriter guy from Dothan/Alabama deserves the same big compliments and respect as all his colleagues featured on that also sensational instrumented CD. The well-know Irish Fingerpicker Ian Melrose plays on most of the tracks some guitar parts. Banjo, Dobro, Hammond Organ, Pedal Steel Guitar, Violin and Waldzither are only a few instruments played by great musicians which make it a worth musical experience. It’s so many to discover, but my personal highlight is the Lee Clayton Song "Industry". This breathtaking track built the crowning end of the production with all in all 16 tracks and over 76 minutes running-time. You feel a strange atmosphere that gives me the creeps and fulfil the serious theme of that song better than the already strong original one can ever do! The wonderful arrangements of the Songs are from Guenter Pauler, founder of the renowned, audiophile Record-Label Stockfisch-Records, based in Germany. High-End recordings are their unbroken pretence since years – you’ll never be disappointed with their products and so "Big Shoes" is already now my album of the year 2009!
